ABOUT THE ARTIST

Amy Thai (b.1992, Australia)

Driven by a quest for mastery in specialized craft traditions, Amy Thai strategically pursued her artistic development in the world's most storied sanctuaries of material excellence. She works with varied materials, each chosen for their unique properties and rich heritage. She learned botanical art in Paris, the centre of floral artistry, where she developed skills to create ephemeral large-scale botanical sculptures. In Carrara, celebrated since Roman times for its exceptional marble, she personally selects each marble block and works it with her own hands, allowing herself to be guided by the unique veining, coloration, and character that emerges from the stone. On the small island of Murano in Venice, distinguished as the global leader for artistic glassmaking since the late thirteenth century, she created in close collaboration with Barovier&Toso ARTE and master glassblowers imposing glass pieces, overcoming the inherent limitations of the medium. Most recently, she has ventured to Jingdezhen, China's 'Porcelain Capital' with over 1,700 years of ceramic history, to master porcelain techniques. Throughout her exploration of these distinctive materials, Thai maintains consistent inspiration from botanical forms, creating an intriguing dialogue between ephemeral and permanent elements of the natural world.
